The technology manufacturer Altech Industries is to set up shop in Lusatia, a region located in the eastern German states of Brandenburg and Saxony. The company plans to establish a production site for coating high-performance lithium-ion batteries on a 14-hectare site at the Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park (ISP) in Spreetal (Bautzen) near Spremberg (Spree-Neisse). Executive board member Uwe Ahrens presented corresponding plans at the industrial park on Wednesday. The German subsidiary of the Australian company Altech Chemical plans to invest up to 500 million euros in the project. Around 150 jobs are to be created. Among other things, process technicians, logisticians, and other motivated people from the region will be needed, Ahrens said.
First, the construction of a pilot plant for the production of anode graphite is planned in the near future. It will be coated and used for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. The production site should be ready within the next two years. There are also plans to produce alumina on site. Currently, the company says it is building a plant in Malaysia for this purpose.
In July 2020, the company had secured an option agreement to buy the site in Lusatia at some point. The purchase agreement has now been signed.
