Volkswagen calls Golf 8 into workshops for software update

December 21, 2021

Abstract : German carmaker Volkswagen is calling the latest model of its workhorse Golf series into the workshops for a software update.

German carmaker Volkswagen is calling the latest model of its workhorse Golf series into the workshops for a software update.

A VW spokesperson said on Wednesday that, because Golf 8 cars produced in the future would have new hardware and software elements, the cars already sold would also have new software installed.

Among other things, the company wants to improve the voice controls in the car.

Since the start of production, the Golf 8 has had problems with the software and electronic features, which had been significantly expanded compared to the previous version, and which did not work as smoothly as initially thought.

Last year, for example, VW called the cars into the workshops because of malfunctions in the electronic emergency call assistant.

The Golf 8 was launched in 2019. Trade magazine Auto Motor Sport reported 220,000 vehicles delivered in Germany alone by November 2021, which are now to be taken to the workshop.

The VW spokesperson did not want to give any detailed information on the number of cars. It was not a mandatory recall by the Federal Motor Transport Authority, but a voluntary service measure, he said.

Customers will probably be contacted at the beginning of the first quarter.
