BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will team up with other departments to further promote in-depth integration of the new energy vehicles (NEVs) with the fields such as energy, transport, information and communications, according to Xin Guobin, vice minister of MIIT, on Thursday.
Xin made a video speech at the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC) which kicked off on Wednesday in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province.
Since the beginning of the year, the country's NEV sector has seen an improvement in both market scale and development quality, with breakthroughs in batteries, motors, and electronic control technologies achieved, according to Xin.
"China's NEVs have gradually expanded from the public sector to the private sector, and the NEV production and sales have ranked first in the world for six consecutive years," said Xin.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed that the NEV sales in China hit a record high of 321,000 units in August, up 180 percent year on year. In the eight-month period, NEV sales surged 190 percent year on year to 1.8 million units.
With the theme "comprehensively promoting marketization, accelerating cross-industry integration, jointly achieving carbon neutrality," the WNEVC will end on Friday. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
