BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Huayang New Material Technology Group Co., Ltd. on Tuesday kicked off construction of a 60,000 tonne/year PBAT biodegradable new material project in Yangquan City, north China's Shanxi province.

Also building a production capacity of 20,000 tonnes of biodegradable plastic products, the company is claimed to be the largest biodegradable raw material and plastic products base in north China, according to Shanxi Daily.

The PBAT project, involving an investment of approximately 400 million yuan, is expected to achieve an annual sales revenue of 1.2 billion yuan upon completion.

The plastic product project costs about 100 million yuan, and will produce 600 million disposable degradable plastic bags, 300 million express bags, 200 million square meters of agriculture-use plastic films and 400 million sets of biodegradable tableware annually, which could generate sales revenue of over 500 million yuan after being put into function.

It is noted that PBAT, as the basic raw material of biodegradable plastics, can be used for making shopping bags, takeaway boxes, express packaging, among others.
