BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- China's lottery sales came in at 30.2 billion yuan (4.67 billion U.S. dollars) in May, data from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) shows.
Sales of welfare lottery tickets totaled 11.32 billion yuan in May, while sports lottery sales came in at 18.88 billion yuan, according to the MOF.
In the first five months, lottery sales amounted to 143.83 billion yuan, involving 56.48 billion yuan of welfare lottery sales and 87.35 billion yuan of sports lottery sales.
In May, sales in the provinces of Guangdong, Henan and Sichuan posted relatively high growth, MOF data shows.
Under China's lottery management rules, money from ticket sales is used for administrative expenses, public welfare projects and prize winnings. Enditem
