BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Anju, an ancient town in Tongliang District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, will hold dragon boat events during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday lasting from June 12 to 14 to carry forward its intangible cultural heritage and folk culture.
Dragon boat rowing is one of the traditional customs in southern China during the Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 14 this year.
There will be four dragon boat events to be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 14:30 to 16:10 p.m., on June 12 and 13, and specific activities will include dragon boat performances, traditional food culture festival, folklore exhibitions and performances, cultural and artistic performances, etc.
Chuanjiang Haozi, folk songs sung by boatmen, which originated in Chongqing and Sichuan Province and has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage, will also be showcased.
Professionals have also been invited to perform stunts over the water, including motor boat stunt, water ballet, etc.
Surrounded by mountains and rivers, Anju ancient town boasts a beautiful scenery, with many buildings dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has 197 cultural relics and historic sites at city and district levels, and one national intangible cultural heritage.
