BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China has exported more than 10,000 online literature works, with website subscriptions and reading App users from abroad exceeding 100 million, covering most countries and regions in the world, according to the 2020 Blue Book of China's Online Literature released by the China Writers Association on Wednesday.
As China moves closer to the center of the world stage, readers around the world are increasingly curious about and expecting "China stories".
China's online literature community has paid more attention to the approach and quality of international communication, with the cooperation on overseas publication further deepened, said He Hong, deputy director of the Online Literature Center of the Chinese Writers Association.
The copyright of physical books of China's online literature have been exported to Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States, covering more than 40 Belt and Road countries and regions, He added.
According to statistics, by December 2020, the copyrights of over 2,400 works from www.jjwxc.net, a popular online literature website in China, had been exported, with more than 10 million copies published overseas, entering the book markets in Southeast Asia, East Asia, North America, Europe and other regions.
China Literature Ltd. (0772.HK), a culture industry group in China, has authorized digital publication and physical book publication rights of more than 700 works to Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, Britain, France, Turkey and other regions.
In terms of online reading, the number of overseas online readers of China's online literature keeps growing. For example, Qidian International (also known as Webnovel), an online novel platform in China, has a total of 54 million visitors worldwide, with about 1,300 translation works launched, including 860 works in English and the rest in Spanish, Indonesian, Hindi and Malay.
COL Digital Publishing Group Co., Ltd. (COL, 300364.SZ), a leading digital publishing institution in China, has seen the total number of overseas readers reach 30 million, with 12 million increased in 2020.
According to the blue book, in recent years, the international communication of China's online literature has shifted from the dissemination of works to the export of deeper mechanisms, with overseas payment mechanism established, creating localized paid reading system tailored for overseas readers.
At the same time, support has been provided to overseas writers to produce original works. At present, Webnovel has attracted about 110,000 overseas creators, and launched more than 200,000 original works, with nearly 100 works receiving more than 10 million clicks.
