Germany significantly increased its timber exports last year. At 12.7 million cubic meters of raw wood, the volume was 42.6 percent higher than the comparable figure from 2019, the Federal Statistical Office reported in Wiesbaden. Since 2015, the amount of exported raw wood has more than tripled.
Above all, it has been the construction boom in China that has been responsible for the increase in demand, which has led to sharply higher prices, especially for sawn timber. More than half (50.6 percent) of the export volume went to China in 2020. In the first two months of this year, the export growth did not initially continue.
