BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai's imports of apparel and accessories in the first quarter amounted to 12.39 billion yuan, jumping 64.9 percent year on year, according to data recently made public by the Shanghai Customs.
The sharp increase showed that many internationally renowned apparel brands have been stepping up their efforts to expand the Chinese market amid local consumers' improving pursuit of brand products and fashion, said an official with the Shanghai Customs.
To support world-famous garment brands to take Shanghai as the place for product debut in China and even the world premiere, as well as to facilitate the building of Shanghai into an international consumption center, the customs authority in Shanghai has dynamically adjusted imported clothes quality assessment procedures based on inspection and risk monitoring of the clothes and enterprise credit rating. This has slashed the time needed for customs clearance and left more time for relevant brand owners to carry out product launching and other promotion campaigns in Shanghai.
Statistics showed that more than 30 apparel import enterprises have benefited from the facilitation measures taken by the Shanghai Customs. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
