BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The overall freight transport of China's southern island province Hainan saw significant growth in the first quarter of 2021, official data from Provincial Department of Transportation showed.
From January to March, Hainan completed 18.828 million tonnes of commercial freight by roads, a year-on-year increase of 73.6 percent, an increase of 22.7 percent over the same period in 2019.
The waterway freight volume increased by 94.8 percent year on year to 47.983 million tonnes, an increase of 103.7 percent over the same period in 2019.
While civil aviation cargo and mail volume hit 74,000 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 22.8 percent, returning to 80-percent-level of the same period in 2019.
As of the end of March, the province has opened 45 container liner routes, including 30 domestic trade routes and 15 foreign trade ones.
