BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing will put its first self-driving SkyShuttle rail transit project into use this Friday, according to a source with the municipality's Bishan District.

With a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan, the demonstration project features electric-powered, unmanned driving, fully automatic trains running on a 15.4-km elevated rail line with 15 stations.

Passengers can hop on through card swiping, QR-code scanning or facial recognition for a sky-shuttling travel experience with the rail line spanning from Bishan Railway Station, stopping over at a few city parks such as Fengxianghu children's park, Dongyue sports park, Xiuhu car-camping park and ending at Bishan subway station (Subway Line 1).
To go with the launch, there will be city livestreaming in the train carriages presenting the whole experiences of the SkyShuttle, the charm of technology as well as the beautiful Bishan scenery and delicious Bishan food on Saturday (April 17).
This will be followed by 3D show every 8 p.m. from April 26 till May 5 near Xiuhu park station and flight performance of 600 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Xiuhu park every 7 p.m.-9 p.m. from May 1 till May 5.
