BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Kuaishou, a leading short-video platform in China, announced on Monday its copyright clearance standards for music used in the platform's livestreaming. It has separate clearance channels for composers, lyricists, and newly-added independent musicians.
It is the first time that China's online platforms have created music copyright settlement standards applying to both short videos and livestreaming.
The settlement standard does not require the copyright holder to grant an exclusive license to Kuaishou and safeguards an orderly spreading of music in a broader market. There will be no ceiling for the sum of copyright settlement nor any deduction other than the legal taxation, the platform said.
Kuaishai will open a public platform this year to all the copyright holders and its artists to facilitate their queries about the usage data of their music content and to complete copyright settlements promptly and accurately.
As emerging business models, including short videos and livestreaming, enjoy their moments in China over the recent years, massive changes have taken place in the creation, spreading, and consumption chains of digital music. It calls for more advanced copyright protection in the industry.
Starting from June 2021, China's latest amendment to the copyright law will come into force to strengthen the country's copyright protection. Enditem
