BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- China's ride hailing giant Didi announced on Thursday that its autopilot company inked a deal on the development of intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) with the government of Huadu District in Guangzhou city, the capital of South China's Guangdong province.
According to the deal, Didi's autopilot company, established in August 2019 from its autonomous driving division, will conduct research and development (R&D), unmanned driving tests and business operation of autonomous driving in the District.
Meanwhile, drawing on its experience accumulated in the travelling sector, Didi will join hands with local market players in the whole supply chain of auto industry, to make vehicles more intelligent and make travelling service industry, with car-sharing as its core, larger in scale.
Didi officially launched self-driving research and development (R&D) tests in 2016. It has thus far obtained road test qualifications in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou in China, and in California in the U.S.. In last June, the company opened autonomous driving trials to public in Shanghai.
