BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality will reduce carbon emission by over 56 million tonnes in the power sector during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), said the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company.
The Municipality will generate more electricity from clean energy, such as wind power and solar power, to help the country to realize its goal of carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality, said Chen Liankai, head of the company.
According to Chen, Chongqing will mobilize the resources of hydropower in Sichuan and wind power and solar power in Xinjiang by building inter-regional ultra high voltage (UHV) power grids, which is able to reduce energy loss.
To promote low-carbon consumption in the Municipality, more efforts will be made to construct more charging piles and stations for electric vehicles in Chongqing.
