BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- East China's Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has continued its good momentum in container throughput since the beginning of the year.
Statistics show that in January this year, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port completed a container throughput of 2.89 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 14.6 percent. During the Spring Festival holiday from February 11 to 17, the port saw a container throughput of 603,000 TEUs, representing a year-on-year increase of 29 percent.
"Since the second half of last year, port operations have remained at a high level. Around the Spring Festival holiday this year, due to factors such as sufficient orders from foreign trade companies, more export cargo reserves, and increased shipping capacity by shipping companies, the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port witnessed higher growth in the shipments than that in the same period of previous years," said Jiang Haijiang, manager of the Operation Department of Ningbo Beilun Third Container Terminal Co., Ltd.
In order to comply with the intelligent development of port terminals, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has piloted the intelligent transformation and upgrade in the Meishan Port.
It is learned that in the Meishan Port area, operators sitting in front of the screen and gently pushing the joystick can accurately operate the gantry crane and bridge crane equipment on the dock about 1 km away, which can seamlessly connect with the container trucks to achieve efficient and safe operation.
