BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China's BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) has been providing global users with quality services since its launch on July 31, 2020, reported People's Daily Thursday.
The real-time test of the international GNSS continuous monitoring and assessment system (iGMAS) shows that the positioning, speed measurement, timing accuracy and availability and continuity of services of BDS-3 have all met the index requirements.
The service capacity of the BDS-3 has ranked among the first class in the world, and the characteristic services have been fully deployed.
The BDS regional short message communication and global short message communication have started serving mass users and some actual users.
The satellite-based augmentation service is provided on a trial basis to customers in civil aviation, maritime affairs, railway and other sectors with high integrity requirements, and the ground-based augmentation system can provide real-time dynamic centimeter-level and post-event static millimeter-level positioning enhancement services.
The precise single-point positioning is now providing services for users in precision agriculture, land surveying, autonomous driving and other fields, and as for the international search and rescue service, the network access work is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of international organizations.
The application of BDS-3 is also moving from regional to global.
Comprehensive breakthroughs have been made in domestic BDS chips, modules and other key technologies which boast performance indicators equivalent to similar international products and have been widely used in all walks of life.
The domestic BDS basic products have been exported to more than 120 countries and regions, and BDS-based land right confirmation, precision agriculture, digital construction and smart ports have been successfully applied in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Asia, Eastern Europe, West Asia, Africa and other places, serving local economic and social development and backing the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The system has been widely supported by international mainstream smartphone manufacturers like Apple since its launch, and is accelerating its push into mass consumer electronics.
According to statistics, 79 percent of smartphones applied for network access to support BDS positioning in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The system application modes are more abundant.
The BDS-3 regional short message will be applied to smart phones within the year, which can realize the integration of mobile communication and short message communication without changing phone cards or numbers or adding additional peripherals.
The BDS high-precision ground-based augmentation information has been applied to smart phones, which can achieve meter-level positioning, and the BDS high-precision mass application has been piloted in some cities.
With the application of BDS characteristic services, new application models are mushrooming, injecting new vitality into the BDS industry and enabling various industries to upgrade.
The development of the BDS industry has been listed as a key project in the 14th Five-Year Plan, and emphasis will be put on high-quality industrial development, domestic substitution of key areas and large-scale application.
