XINING, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Qinghai Province will push forward the construction of a national park cluster to improve the ecological environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, local authorities said on Wednesday.
Having built two national parks around Sanjiangyuan, home to the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, as well as the Qilian Mountains, Qinghai has integrated 109 nature reserves of various levels to make 79 in total, said Li Xiaonan, head of the provincial forestry and grassland bureau.
National parks account for 52.2 percent of the province's total nature reserve area, which has been expanded by another 34,100 square km and now makes up 38.42 percent of the province's total land area.
While promoting the establishment of the Sanjiangyuan and Qilian Mountains national parks, Qinghai is now accelerating its applications to construct national parks around Qinghai Lake and the Kunlun Mountains, aiming to grow its national park cluster. Enditem
