SHANGHAI, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) – Shanghai is advancing urban digital transformation in full swing, which is likely to forge a new advantage for the future development of the city, according to Wu Qing, vice mayor of Shanghai spoke at the opening ceremony of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2021 on February 23.
Wu Qing noted that Shanghai has been accelerating the deployment of new infrastructure like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and Internet of Things (IoT) in responding to the central government's development decision.
As of the end of January this year, Shanghai has built more than 90,000 5G base stations, and promoted 5G applications in more than 430 projects covering smart manufacturing, healthcare, and wisdom education.
While Shanghai is vowing to create new commercial activities of digital economy, it will promote the digital transformation in the fields of production, manufacturing, scientific research, and financial services.
In addition to public facilities, efforts would also be made in the digital transformation of health, education, elderly care, as well as cultural and tourism sectors.
Shanghai will also take measures to streamline the administrative services, and speed up the digitalization of public utilities such as the rules of law, public security, and emergency response.
