BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese coastal ports have been busy for days since the beginning of 2021, embracing a good start.
Data from the Ministry of Transport showed that in January this year, China's ports completed 1.29 billion metric tons (tonnes) of cargo throughput, up 17.4 percent year on year, and 23.77 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container throughput, up 13.2 percent year on year.
The Guangzhou Port in south China's Guangdong Province completed 1.237 million tonnes of cargo throughput and 30,300 TEUs of container throughput on February 11 on which the Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve fell, with vessels entering and departing the port reaching 56, a rise of 19 percent from the same period of 2020.
During the Spring Festival holiday, which ran from Feb. 11 to 17, the Qingdao port in east China's Shandong Province saw 621 ships come and go, an increase of 29.11 percent year on year, and handled 12.47 million tonnes of cargo, up 12.8 percent year on year.
