BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of China's 5G connections surpassed 200 million and accounted for 87 percent of the global total in 2020, reported Economic Information Daily Tuesday citing a report.
The country's 5G connection figure is expected to reach 822 million in 2025, says the report on the development of China's mobile economy released Monday by the GSMA, an international association of mobile operators.
It also notes that the capital expenditure of Chinese operators from 2020 to 2025 may register 210 billion U.S. dollars, with 90 percent to be spent on 5G construction and development.
According to the report, China's 4G penetration rate dropped for the first time in 2020.
It anticipates that with the increasing popularity of the 5G services, the 4G penetration rate in China will continue to decline in the next few years, and by 2025, the ratio of 4G connections among the national total will record 53 percent, while that of 5G 47 percent.
So far, more than 990 million people in China have used mobile internet services, and by 2025, the figure may approach to 1.2 billion, the report says.
