BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- East China's Zhejiang province saw a total of its 114 enterprises and products recognized as single champions in the manufacturing industry, ranking the first among all provinces and regions in the country in terms of the single champion quantity for two consecutive years, said the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang last Friday.
Single champion enterprises in the manufacturing industry refer to enterprises that have focused on specific product segments in the manufacturing industry, and boasted leading production technology and high market share throughout the world.
In the fifth batch of single champion enterprises and products in the manufacturing industry unveiled by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in December 2020, there were 33 Zhejiang-based enterprisese and products, including 21 single champion enterprises and 12 single champion products, which marked a majority proprotion in the fifth batch.
Li Min, deputy director of the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang, introduced that the 114 single champion enterprises and products are distributed in 9 cities in the province. Ningbo, a port city in Zhejiang Province, ranks the first among all the domestic cities in terms of the number of single champions.
In recent years, Ningbo has taken the cultivation of single champion enterprises as a starting point to promote the high-quality development of manufacturing industry. It has strived to forge a group of manufacturing enterprises with outstanding industry status and leading technologies.
Chen Chenghai, the second-level inspector of Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Bureau, said that from January to November 2020, Ningbo's single champion enterprises accounted for 4.6 percent of all enterprises above the designated size and contributed 23.85 percent to the city's total industrial output value.
"Cultivating single champion enterprises can help boost the core competitiveness of the industry and promote the high-quality economic development," said Li Min, adding that in the next step, Zhejiang will formulate special policies to help forge champion products and champion enterprises with core competitiveness.
