BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Multiple regions in China and listed Chinese firms are making layouts in 5G medical, reported Economic Information Daily Monday.
Shanghai Municipality and Shanxi, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hebei and Sichuan provinces have all started application for 5G plus medical and health application pilot projects recently as a response to a circular issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Health Commission in November 2020.
These pilot projects will focus on emergency treatment, remote diagnosis, remote therapy, remote intensive care, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis and treatment, hospital management, intelligent disease control, health management as required by the circular.
Apart from the above-mentioned eight fields, Shanghai has also listed remote ward rounds and mobile medical care as key directions in the pilot projects, encouraging related units to innovate 5G application scenarios.
Many listed Chinese firms like Guomai Technologies, Inc. (002093.SZ) and Hangzhou Century Co., Ltd.(300078.SZ) also express willingness to actively take part in the application of 5G plus medical and health application pilot projects.
Actually, driven by favorable internet medical care policies, a number of listed Chinese companies have been busy making layouts in this field in recent years.
Public data show that listed companies such as Winning Health Technology Group Co., Ltd. (300253.SZ), NanJing Pharmaceutical Company Limited (600713.SH) and Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd. (600196.SH) have already started layouts in remote diagnosis and treatment, remote pharmaceutical services and other fields which are important application scenarios for 5G plus medical and health.
According to a report released by the west branch of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), China's smart medical industry hit 100 billion yuan in scale in 2020, and the figure is expected to reach 125.9 billion yuan in 2021.
It says that the industry will usher in intelligent, efficient and large-scale development at a fast speed.
Public data show that more than 500 hospitals throughout China have deployed 5G networks and carried out 5G medical application trials and commercial use.
Insiders believe that as the 5G plus medial and health pilot applications gradually develop into practical applications, a huge industrial development space is opening.
