VIENTIANE, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Vientiane-Vangvieng section of the China-Laos expressway, the first expressway in Laos, was officially open to traffic on Sunday.
The opening ceremony of the Vientiane-Vangvieng section was simultaneously held in Vientiane, capital of Laos, and Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, via video link, on Sunday.
The highway, jointly constructed by Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group and the Lao government, starts from Vientiane and ends at the Laos-China border, with a total length of 440 kilometers.
The project is scheduled to be implemented in four phases. Construction of the Vientiane-Vangvieng section marked the first phase of the project.
With a length of about 110 km, the Vientiane-Vangvieng section is a two-way four-lane expressway and has a design speed of 80-100 kilometers per hour.(Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
