NANJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- East China's Jiangsu Province aims to encourage over 300,000 students at 1,000 schools to participate in ice and snow sports by 2024, according to the Jiangsu Ice and Snow Sports Association.
In line with Beijing 2022's vision of engaging 300 million people in winter sports across China, Jiangsu is launching a series of winter sports events, including an ice and snow festival, ski racing and winter camps aimed at schools throughout the province.
Jiangsu has also issued a series of vouchers for ice and snow activities that residents can spend at over 400 venues in both Jiangsu Province and Zhangjiakou of Hebei Province, which will play host to several events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Jiangsu is also looking to provide more winter sports facilities for its residents. So far, the province has built 42 venues for ice and snow sports covering a total area of over 400,000 square meters.
The province has set a goal of staging around 100 winter sports events and activities each year, and expects to have more than 20,000 registered athletes in ice and snow sports by 2024. Enditem
