BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China will unveil measures to promote consumption in key fields like automobiles, home appliances, furniture and home decoration, and catering, and further unleash the potential of rural consumption, reported Economic Information Daily Monday quoting officials.
Consumption in automobiles, home appliances and catering is the backbone of the consumer market, as well as important fields to expand domestic demand and build a strong domestic market, said Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Bingnan at a policy meeting.
Rural consumption is an important part of the consumer market, and the rural retail sales of consumer goods in 2019 accounted for 14.7 percent of the total retail sales of consumer goods, showing great potential, Wang added.
According to him, measures will be unveiled to boost consumption in automobiles, home appliances, furniture and home decoration, catering, and rural areas.
To stabilize and expand automobile consumption, efforts will be made to optimize purchase restrictions, encourage related areas to carry out new round of subsidies to farmers in purchasing cars, deepen reform of the automobile distribution system, etc.
To promote consumption in home appliances, furniture and home decoration, efforts will be made to encourage areas where conditions permit to provide subsidies for eliminating old home appliances and furniture and purchasing green, smart home appliances and environmentally-friendly furniture, improve the recycling system of renewable resources, and develop "internet plus waste material recycling" and other new recycling modes, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC),.
In terms of fostering catering consumption, catering companies will be inspired to innovate online and offline business models, carry out consumption activities, and promote quality specialty catering in a market-oriented manner to boost consumer confidence.
In terms of expanding rural consumption, MOC said that efforts would be made to further promote e-commerce development in rural areas, improve related logistics system, and strengthen the construction of commerce and trade facilities in counties and towns to lift the quality of goods and services in rural areas.
MOC study also showed that China's consumer market will continue to pick up towards the end of the year, and China's total retail sales of consumer goods in 2021 is expected to achieve rapid recovery and growth, according to preliminary evaluation.
