NANNING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Second China-ASEAN AI Summit is scheduled to be held in Nanning, the capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on November 13, the summit organizer said here Saturday.
The Summit, themed on "Attracting Talents to Boost Achievements, Making Innovations and Business to Win the Future", is to highlight high-end, professional, commercial and integrative as its four major characters, aiming to boost technology exchange between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and press ahead AI industrial development in Guangxi, according to Wu Zhiwei, deputy director of the Big Data Development Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the summit's organizer, at a press conference Saturday.
The cooperation between China and ASEAN countries provides important opportunities for Guangxi to make headway in digital economic development. So far, some AI innovation and research platforms, such as China-ASEAN (Huawei) AI Innovation Center, Cloud Intelligence Innovative Industry Research Institute of China-ASEAN Information Harbor, have started operation in Guangxi.
The total value of Guangxi's digital economy is estimated at about 659.3 billion yuan in 2019, representing 31.05 percent of the region's GDP, according to Wu Zhiwei.
Wu added that as major digital technology companies such as Huawei, Inspur Group, Tsinghua Tongfang have geared up their layout in Guangxi and local enterprises like Digital Guangxi Group, China-ASEAN Information Harbor Co., Ltd. have made progress, Guangxi's digital and information industry has seen flourish development, and the total number of digital economy-centered companies locally hit about 12,000.
To minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizer adopts online and offline methods to organize the summit, with face-to-face discussions and video dialogues included. The digital technology exhibition, a part of the summit, is mostly held online or by means of virtual reality (VR), showcasing application of Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, AI, AI wearable, big data, smart manufacturing, and e-commerce technologies.
The participants are from across East Asia, South Asia and Europe, including Nobel Prize Laureates, academicians and top AI experts, government officials, and company executives. Some of them will share theirs insights on AI technology philosophy, path and application. Meanwhile, AI technology companies such as Siemens, Huawei, Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu, will also attend to talk with potential business partners, according to the organizer.
The First China-ASEAN AI Summit was held in Nanning during September 7-9 last year and widely regarded as a big success. Over 100 AI-related companies across the world had been enrolled to participate in that summit, including Huawei, Aliyun, Tencent, JD.com, Inspur Group, iFLYTEK, Haier, Suning, and GREE.
