BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- South China's island province of Hainan saw an increase in the online transaction volume in the first three quarters of this year compared to the same period of last year, Hainan Daily reported on Wednesday.
Data from the provincial department of commerce showed that the province saw the online transaction volume reach 167 billion yuan in the first three quarters of this year.
According to the data, the transaction volume of the province's online retail market surged 6.84 percent year on year to 53.189 billion yuan during the period.
In the first three quarters, Hainan's live broadcast transaction value hit 780 million yuan, with the total number of viewers reaching 33.57 million.
Up to date, the province is home to more than 226,000 internet merchants, of which 49.13 percent internet merchants are established in Haikou, capital of the province.
