BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Beijing has realized the full coverage of standalone 5G network as all the 44,000 5G base stations built in the capital city have connected to 5G independent networking, according to data released by Beijing communications administration on Wednesday.
This has made Beijing become the second Chinese city to be fully covered by 5G signals after Shenzhen, which announced citywide 5G coverage last month.
It is estimated that by the end of this year, over 50,000 5G base stations will be built in Beijing.
This is an example showing how Chinese cities are pushing ahead construction of 5G networks as a response to the central government's call to promote new infrastructure in a bid to inject new impetus to the country's economy.
The standalone 5G network, known as the "real" 5G deployment with the 5G core as its center, makes full use of 5G mobile networks covering high throughput, low latency communications, massive IoT and network slicing.
Applications such as automatic driving and industrial Internet will be better realized with standalone 5G network, and the promotion of standalone network will further accelerate the commercial use of 5G, said industry insiders. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
