NANNING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Fumian Airport, located at Yulin city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, starts formal operation as a passenger plane from Yulin to Beijing takes its maiden fly on Friday morning.
According to the airport authority, the first flight, HU6268, will be carried out by Hainan Airlines (600221.SH). The airport was granted civil airport use permit by the Ministry of Transport on Aug. 17, 2020.
The Fumian Airport, the eighth civil airport in Guangxi, is about 21km away from downtown Yulin, at the geographic center of Guangxi's Nanning, Wuzhou, Guigang, Qinzhou, Beihai and Zhanjiang of Guangdong Province and in the middle of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Beibu Gulf Economic Zone.
The project of Fumian Airport was initiated in May 2011, and gained multiple support from several national plans, such as 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) on Comprehensive Transportation System, Zhujiang-Xijiang Economic Belt Development Plan, mid-term adjustment of Civil Aviation Development Plan (2011-2015). On Aug. 22, 2016, the airport started construction, adopting a model of Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) for its design, procurement and construction.
