SHANGHAI, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Airport Authority signed on Monday a strategic cooperation agreements repectively with the Shanghai branches of China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Tower, aiming to boost the high-quality transformation and upgrading of civil aviation industry.
According to the agreement, Shanghai Airport Authority and the above-mentioned telecommunications companies will jointly promote the deployment of 5G networks in Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, strive to complete the 5G network coverage in the main public areas before the opening of the 3rd China International Import Expo in November, and explore 5G innovative applications in areas such as airport safety management, operation and maintenance, and passenger services.
Shanghai Airport Authority will give a full display of its resource advantages in airport infrastructure to help telecommunications companies carry out information communication infrastructure construction in a more convenient and efficient way.
In the meantime, the Shanghai branch of China Tower will work with the three major telecommunications carriers to ensure the high-quality 5G wireless network coverage, jointly promote the deep integration of urban information infrastructure and transportation infrastructure, and provide technical support for Shanghai Airport Authority's efforts in setting up new traffic management mechanism and using effectively the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart civil aviation.
At present, Shanghai is accelerating the deployment of new digital infrastructure led by 5G. By the end of July, Shanghai had built over 25,000 5G outdoor base stations and 31,000 5G indoor small stations, realizing continuous outdoor coverage of 5G networks in key areas in both downtown and suburban regions.
This year, Shanghai plans to invest a total of nearly 10 billion yuan to build 30,000 outdoor base stations and 50,000 indoor small stations. (Edited by Zhang Yuan with Xinhua Silk Road, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
