The Volkswagen seat manufacturer Sitech aims to set up a joint venture with the car components company Brose. Under a letter of intent signed on Monday in the city of Coburg, VW and the Brose group are to be equal partners in the venture, with the final contracts to be completed by the end of the year. German cartel authorities will then examine the project.
According to Daniela Cavallo, vice-chairwoman of the VW group works council and a member of the Sitech supervisory board, jobs at Sitech's production sites in Germany will be guaranteed until 2029, with goal of keeping production at the plants running as strongly as possible.
Michael Stoschek, head of the ownership group of Brose, stated: "I am confident that Volkswagen and Brose will work out a solid foundation for the joint venture, which will take a leading position in the toughly-fought market for vehicle seats."
VW board member in charge of components, Thomas Schmall, said he saw advantages forthcoming from the joint development of seating technology, such as for autonomous driving. "The interior of the future will be a newly-defined living area in which, alongside comfort and safety, flexibility and the personal touch of the interior space will be at the forefront."
Brose managing director Ulrich Schrickel said his company will bring to the venture such products as sensors and software.
