SHANGHAI, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Local authority in Shanghai has been stepping up the construction of intelligent transportation since the beginning of the year, aiming to reduce the traffic accidents and improve traffic efficiency, according to a recent press conference of the Shanghai government, reported People's Daily Monday.
Under the framework of smart city and smart public security, Shanghai is building road traffic management subsystem, namely IDPS system of the urban transportation system, vowing to build a new refined and intelligent traffic management model.
After its completion, the IDPS system can not only grasp the dynamic traffic flow of the road network in real time, but also alleviate the parking issues through smart parking and shared parking.
It is noted that through regular crackdowns on traffic violation conducted by local department, traffic accidents, deaths and injuries in Shanghai were brought down 27.6 percent, 54.7 percent and 13.2 percent respectively, compared with the same period last year.
Shanghai is expected to put the IDPS system into operation by October this year. The system will essentially support the city in traffic planning, policy formulation, construction, facility operation and maintenance.
