BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai will further pace up the construction of charging facilities for new electric vehicles (NEVs), adding 100,000-200,000 charging poles in the next three years, according to Wu Jincheng, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.
In the meantime, the metropolis will advance update and iteration of shared charging technology, so that more NEVs can realize fast charging while vehicles with low time limits can use slow charging to achieve optimal resources allocation, Securities Times quoted Wu as saying.
Earlier in May, Shanghai has announced its action plan for advancing new infrastructure construction during 2020-2022 under which Shanghai says it will invest around 270 billion yuan in its first batch of 48 major new infrastructure projects over the plan period, focusing on the construction of new generation network, innovative infrastructure, artificial intelligence platforms and intelligent terminals.
The action plan says Shanghai mulls to set up 34,000 new 5G base stations and 100,000 smart charging piles for EVs, along with unmanned factories, production lines and workshops.
The importance of new infrastructure construction is highlighted in this year's government work report, and the country has vowed to expand 5G applications and build more charging facilities to promote the wider use of NEVs. (Edited by Niu Huizhe with Xinhua Silk Road, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
