CHANGCHUN, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The vehicle import port of Changchun Xinglong Railway Container Terminal has embraced its first anniversary in May. After one year's operation, it has gradually become a bridge connecting China's "motor city" Changchun and the countries along the Belt and Road route.
Pang Hongtu, director with the port bureau of the Department of Commerce of Jilin Province, introduced that the port is the only vehicle import port in the inland area of northeast China.
Changchun, capital of Jilin Province, is in the geographical center of northeast China, which facilitates the distribution and sales of imported vehicles.
The port has an area of 14,600 square meters for import vehicles, with 240 parking lots. There are import and export channels, container handling areas and vehicle inspection areas in vehicle supervision section.
"At present, the port has imported 164 Audi vehicles," said Zhao Shuang, director with the port economic bureau of Changchun Xinglong Comprehensive Bonded Zone.
In 1956, Changchun produced the first Jiefang truck of China. After decades of development, Changchun has formed an automobile industry system led by China FAW Group's whole vehicle project and supported by auto parts manufacturing.
Changchun has a total of five vehicle enterprises, 13 special-purpose vehicle enterprises. There are more than 300 automobile parts enterprises with annual sales revenue over 20 million yuan and 230,000 employees in the auto industry.
Besides, Changchun has one of the few ports in China that can provide automobile bonded inspection business. In 2021, the second phase of Changchun automobile testing center will attract the congregation of new energy and intelligent network enterprises.
"If a new foreign automobile model wants to enter the Chinese market, it can be tested in the bonded area to save the company's costs," said Du Shouqian, deputy director with the comprehensive department of the Changchun Xinglong Comprehensive Bonded Zone.
Zhao Shuang added that Changchun University of Science and Technology, Changchun Automotive Research Institute and other institutions have provided think tank and talent support to promote the transformation and upgrading of automobile industry.
In terms of linkage capability, on the one hand, relying on China-Europe freight trains (Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe route), Chinese enterprises got the first batch of imported vehicles from Germany to Changchun vehicle import port in 2019.
On the other hand, Zhang Xiaotong, general manager of Changchun International Land Port Development Co., Ltd., said that the advantage in railway channel has injected new momentum into Jilin Province's efforts to build logistics center in Northeast Asia.
