SHENZHEN, May 28 (Xinhua) -- With the last outdoor base station installed, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has embraced the full coverage of the 5G network, three months ahead of schedule, the airport said.
Since this year, the airport has accelerated the construction of a 5G network by building 41 outdoor base stations, with signals that can cover all places including terminals, the flight area and the freight transport area.
The speed of the 5G network is more than 15 times faster than the current 4G network and will support superfast movie downloads, according to initial tests.
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is a major airport in south China with air routes to 180 international and domestic destinations. Last year, it handled more than 52.93 million passenger trips.
Shenzhen, one of China's most vibrant and innovative cities, is expected to build another 30,000 5G base stations this year to fully cover the city with the 5G network, according to the Shenzhen Industrial and Information Technology Bureau.
Shenzhen built 15,500 5G base stations in 2019 and achieved full 5G signal coverage in its key areas. Enditem
