BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. and China Broadcasting Network Co., Ltd. recently signed a framework agreement on jointly developing and sharing 5G contents and platforms.
This is after a deal signed last year between another two licensed 5G commercial operators, China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Unicom) and China Telecom Group.
As China is in full gear of 5G construction, the industrial chain of 5G communication equipment in low and mid frequency is increasingly mature. China Broadcasting Network will launch its 5G mobile terminals soon, another step forward to 5G commercial operation, announced the company on May 16.
Internet industry observer Wu Chunyong said that the partnership is likely to gain mutual benefits as it will integrate resources and cut costs, as well as accelerate 5G network construction.
With the demand for online working and education booming, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has also brought up the notion of new construction and one of its most important parts is 5G, said Wu.
These changes post more challenges for the operators in the 5G construction progress, he said.
The cooperation between China Unicom and China Telecom has made some achievement, including putting in use 100,000 5G base stations as of the end of April and 5G commercial operation in over 50 cities, and they plan to build 250,000 base stations in total nationwide.
