CHONGQING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The foreign trade volume in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality reached 53.9 billion yuan (about 7.6 billion U.S. dollars) in April, up 26.4 percent year on year, according to the local customs.
The municipality saw a surge in export in April, which reached 36.6 billion yuan, up 41.8 percent year on year.
The robust trade volume was mainly driven by an increase in the export of electronic products and import of production materials and consumer goods, said Li Yu, deputy director of Chongqing Customs.
Notably, Chongqing exported a record 6.3 million laptops in April, up 74.3 percent year on year. It also exported wearable smart electronic products worth 2.1 billion yuan, 1.5 times more than the same period last year. Enditem
