Italy-China, agreements signed for the meat and rice export

April 10, 2020

Abstract : The agreements will allow the Italian exporters to expand their operational capacities on the Chinese market, where the Italian exports slightly decreased in 2019. The Italian Embassy in Beijing has accelerated the time-to-contract.

MILAN, Apr. 8 (Class Editori) - Two memoranda of understanding have been signed today in Beijing, which open the Chinese market to the export of Italian beef meat and rice and represent an important step towards the elimination of barriers to the exports of Italian agri-food products towards the Chinese market.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close collaboration with the Ministries of Agriculture and Health, as well as with the Chinese Authorities, has fostered a great acceleration, in order to quickly come to the signature of these agreements, which will effectively support the Italian export in this moment of great difficulty.

In 2019, the Italian exports towards China – particularly concerning the mechanical and chemical fields - slightly decreased by €200 million, from 13.1% to 12.9%: these the rates recorded last December, 31.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also through the diplomatic-consular network, is strongly committing to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in terms of health material supply and fellow-citizens repatriation, but also in terms of support to the productive and entrepreneurial industries.

Today, the medical airlift coordinated by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Consulate in China in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Civil Protection Department has planned three special cargos; to them, the flight offered by SNAM and operated by Neos airline has been added, which landed yesterday at Milano Malpensa.

All the today’s shipments are leaving from the International Airport of Shenzhen. Two flights of the Civil Protection operated by Neos itself have also been addressed to Milano Malpensa. However, the third flight organised by the Italian Air Force is going to Pratica di Mare (Rome).

After the deliveries, the total amount of masks transported to Italy in less than 72 hours will exceed ten million pieces, to which two hundred lung ventilators are added.

This is a medical-health equipment, partly purchased by the Civil Protection and partly made available through donation. New flights have already been scheduled in the following days from Beijing and other locations throughout the country.
