Trip.com: tourism sector resumes operation in China

March 27, 2020

Abstract : After three months of lockout, the Chinese tourism and the local economy are resuming their normal activity step by step. Over 3,700 tourist attractions classified as level A have already been opened.

MILAN, March 26 (Class Editori) -- Italy as well will receive health material supplies from Trip.com. The company specialized in online travel services has released that 1 million surgical masks will be supplied in order to support the fight against COVID-19, as part of a global donation program. Among these, 100,000 masks have been delivered to the Italian diplomatic network.

The initiative, led by the co-founder and chairman of the company James Liang, provided for the delivery and distribution of surgical masks to the countries affected by the health emergency related to the coronavirus spread. Beside Italy: South Korea, Japan, the USA, Canada, Germany, Serbia, France, UK and Australia.

"In this moment of global fight against the epidemic, it is essential that all countries would join and support each other in order to ensure a victory for the whole humankind," Liang has declared.

"In the near future, we are going to face this challenge, by strongly supporting the tourism industry resumption", as Jane Sun, CEO of the Trip.com group, has stated. "We are keeping on working all together in order to combat this threat and move forward to an exciting future for the tourism industry."

Last March 5, the group had already implemented a plan, "the so-called plan V", to allow the sector relaunch by establishing a fund of one billion yuan, equal to about 695 million U.S. dollars. After three months of lockout, the Chinese tourism and the local economy are resuming their normal activity step by step. Over 3,700 tourist attractions classified as level A have already been opened. We are talking about one third of the tourist attractions, which have been closed in order to prevent infections.

According to data released by Trip.com, two weeks after the launch of its "plan V", the hotels' pre-sales have increased by 20 times and the orders of entrance tickets to tourist sites have grown by 100 percent per week.

Meanwhile, in China, 67 new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the last 24 hours, all of them imported from abroad. The health authorities have stated it by underlining that for the second consecutive day no cases have occurred on the national territory. The total rate of infection cases in the country has increased up to 81,285 while the total number of deaths is 3,287.
