Jack Ma to give masks and test reagents to Italy and Europe

March 17, 2020

Abstract : Its namesake Foundation and Alibaba will help Europe by giving 1.8 million masks and 100,000 reagents to conduct tests. And almost the half of them, according to milanofinanza.

MILAN, Mar. 13 (Class Editori) - Jack Ma will give almost 1 million masks to Italy. While the coronavirus emergency is spreading in Europe, the Chinese billionaire decided to support the countries mostly hit by the epidemic. For this reason, its namesake Foundation and Alibaba will help Europe by giving 1.8 million masks and 100,000 reagents to conduct tests. And almost the half of them, according to milanofinanza.it, will be given to Italy, the country which has been the most affected in Europe until this moment. They should arrive by the end of the week.

The news has been released by the founder of Alibaba himself, the Chinese e-commerce giant, with a post on his channel Weibo. The supplies will be particularly delivered to Italy and Spain, but also to other countries. According to the economic-financial platform Yicai, Ma will use the Alibaba hub located in the Liegi Airport, which had been opened in December 2018. Belgium, in fact, has been the first European country to endorse the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP), the e-commerce global platform launched in 2016 on the occasion of the G20 hosted by China, when the protectionism, just evoked by the at that time Candidate for the White House, started to take hold. On the occasion of the agreement with Brussels, the logistics responsible of Alibaba, Cainiao, rented an area of 220,000 sqm in the Liegi Airport, with an initial investment of 75 million euros.

“Even if the cross-border transport of goods needed to fight the epidemic would be difficult, the EWTO in the European hub of the Liegi Airport is working well, and may deal as lifeline to help us in providing some aids addressed to those who need them”, as Ma has explained; “although we live thousands of miles away, we are up against the clock in order to ensure emergency support and overcome the difficulties together”.

Meanwhile, on Thursday March 12, the plane coming from China with nine specialists and a cargo of humanitarian aids landed in Roma Fiumicino. The Chinese Red Cross Organisation has sent these aids to the Italian one, in order to deliver the materials to the Government and partly spread the devices among the volunteers of the Association, which have been actively involved in the coronavirus emergency.

Nine pallets with ventilators, respiratory materials, electrocardiographs, tens of thousands of masks and other medical devices have been loaded inside the plane.

The nine specialists, six men and three women directed by the vice president of the Chinese Red Cross Organisation- Yang Huichuan- and by a famous cardiopulmonary resuscitation professor- Liang Zongan- are emergency doctors, paediatrician, nurses and people who have dealt with the coronavirus emergency in China. The Italian Red Cross Organisation will host the group.
