BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A majority of the carmakers tracked by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) have resumed work, said the association on Thursday.
According to the CAAM, among 23 carmakers whose annual output account for over 96 percent of the total in China, 90.1 percent of them have resumed work as the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been basically curbed. 77 percent of their employees have returned to work.
In order to stimulate automobile consumption, CAAM suggested that regions where the automobile purchase restriction policy is implemented should increase as appropriate the vehicle license plate quota.
In the meantime, restriction on the purchase of new energy vehicles (NEVs) is encouraged to be revoked. Local governments are suggested to consider the extension of subsidies for NEVs.
CAAM also suggested that purchase tax on passenger cars with engines less than 1.6 liters should be adjusted. Policies to fuel automobile consumption in rural areas are advised to be unveiled. (Edited by Zhang Yuan, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
