BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- South China's island province of Hainan has recently unveiled an action plan to promote development of the local health industry, according to the Health Commission of the province on Thursday.
The province aims to expand the proportion of the added value of the health industry to its GDP to 5.5 percent by 2022, and 10.5 percent by 2030, according to the plan.
Hainan will give priority to the development of the high-level medical services and health tourism, and focus on the advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. Meanwhile, the province will also accelerate construction of the projects such as Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, the biomedical and translational medicine base in Haikou, and the health tourism demonstration base in Sanya.
In addition, the province will take advantage of technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and block chain to build a smart medical service system and innovate the medical service modes.
It will also give play to the role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in disease treatment, disease prevention and control, and characteristic rehabilitation, said the plan. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
