BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A joint venture formed by China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), Guangzhou Metro and Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service signed an eight-year contract on operation and maintenance of Lahore Orange Line Metro, the first metro in Pakistan, reported people.com Tuesday.
Lahore is the second largest city of Pakistan and an industrial center of the country. Co-constructed by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and NORINCO, the metro is part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The total length of the metro reaches 25.58 kilometers, with 26 stations connecting many densely populated areas of Lahore. It is planned to be put into commercial operation in June this year, with an initial capacity of 250,000 passengers per day.
