TAIPEI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's industrial production index for January dropped 10.1 percent from December 2019 and 1.51 percent year on year, according to the island's economic affairs department.
The index stood at 105.58 points with the base value of the index set at 100 based on industrial production in 2016, the department said in a press release on Monday.
The sub-reading for manufacturing, the largest component of the index, dropped 10.45 percent from December and 1.28 percent year on year, while that for mining and quarrying fell 28.78 percent from the previous month and 22.8 percent year on year.
The authority attributed the weak industrial production to fewer working days in January due to the Spring Festival holiday.
The sub-index for electricity and gas supply in January decreased 4.48 percent year on year but that for water supply increased 1.27 percent.
