Automobile JVs start to resume production in China

Abstract : After many Chinese automakers resumed production last week, joint-venture car companies have also started production on Monday, as the industry is accelerating the resumption of normal operation.

BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- After many Chinese automakers resumed production last week, joint-venture car companies have also started production on Monday, as the industry is accelerating the resumption of normal operation amid the novel coronavirus epidemic.

Shanghai Securities News learned from Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC Group) that on Monday, its affiliated plants in Guangzhou, including GAC-Honda, GAC-Toyota, GAC Motor, GAC NE and GAC FCA, will resume production from this week.

Moreover, GAC Motor's Yichang plant, GAC-Mitsubishi, GAC FCA Changsha plant will also resume production as soon as possible when conditions allow.

In order to ensure the smooth resumption of production, GAC Group's affiliated vehicle companies are fully prepared. For example, GAC-Honda formulated guidelines and emergency plans for employees to resume work. GAC-Toyota will resume production in stages in an effort to meet customer demand for star models such as the Camry, Highlander and Levin.

Other joint-venture car producers will also resume full production from Monday.

According to information released by Volkswagen last week, five FAW-Volkswagen and one SAIC-Volkswagen plants have resumed work, and the remaining plants will resume production from Monday.

Toyota said on Saturday that its three joint venture plants in China, including FAW Toyota's plants in Changchun and Tianjin, would resume operations in the following two days. In addition, BMW Group also planned to resume BMW-Brilliance production as early as on Monday.

According to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, as of February 12, 59 out of the 183 vehicle production bases in China have begun to operate. With another batch of joint-venture car companies coming back to work on Monday, the proportion of the whole auto industry will further increase.  (Edited by Yang Qi)
