BEIJING, Feb. 14(Xinhua) -- The first generating unit of the Kafue Gorge Lower (KGL)hydropower plant in Zambia was successfully hoisted in place on Monday, marking the power station officially entered the final assembly stage, according to the company's official website.
Undertaken by Sino-Hydro Corporation, the construcion of the hydropower station is expected to complete by 2020.
The total installed capacity of the power plant is designed at 750 MW, and it is expected to generate 3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
The Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro power plant is the first large hydropower station invested and developed by Zambia government in recent 40 years at a cost of over two billion U.S. Dollars.
