Lao officials learning benefits of biogas supported by Chinese gov't

December 20, 2019

Abstract : Lao government officials are learning the numerous benefits of biogas during a course in capital Vientiane supported by China's Ministry of Commerce.

VIENTIANE, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Lao government officials are learning the numerous benefits of biogas during a course in capital Vientiane supported by China's Ministry of Commerce.

The opening ceremony of a biogas pit was held on Wednesday in Xaythany district, Lao capital Vientiane and chaired by Vice-chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Commission under Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment, Khenethong Sisouvong.

The ceremony is part of a two-month training course on biogas technology that will complete on next Thursday, run by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Thursday.

The course aims to upgrade government officials' knowledge of the renewable energy source and to exchange lessons on the topic.

Some 47 government officials from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and the Forestry and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment attended the ceremony. They heard that biogas could lessen household energy use and also promoted environmental protection in Laos, said the report.

In addition, 100 government officials joined a biogas technology training course running from Oct. 10 until Dec. 3.

China's Ministry of Commerce also provided a training course on the China-Laos railway for 50 officials from Lao Ministries of Education and Sports, Public Works and Transport, and Planning and Investment from August 8-28.
