MILAN, Dec. 23 (Class Editori) - To conclude the many activities organized in 2019, the third edition of the Suzhou Business Forum organized by the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce and the Suzhou Xiangchen Economic & Technological Developement Zone was held in Suzhou on 18 December.
The 19 Italian companies that joined this initiative in the final part of the day were protagonists of B2B with about fifty Chinese, as well as Korean and Japanese companies associated with their respective Chambers of Commerce that joined the initiative.
The city of Suzhou has its own ancient history of trade and manufacturing, testified by Marco Polo.
Today, after twenty-five years of industrialization, starting from SIP (Suzhou Industrial Park) a joint venture promoted by China and the Government of Singapore, the Suzhou area has come to be an important junction at the confluence of the Yantze River so as to converge in the Yantze River Integration Program.
Today, this district has 587 billion investments, 92 new projects, 12 research centers (Creative International Innovatives), a center for the development of Healthcare and 6 Future Industrial Highclouds and is also part of the Belt and Road Initiative project. There is also a research institute affiliated to the University of Suzhou for robotics and artificial intelligence as well as the Cas Achievement Venture Capital Incubator for startups.
In the Xiangchen Zone, in the Suzhou area, there are 170 Italian companies, the highest concentration in a Chinese cluster of Italian manufacturing.
And it is precisely on this situation that the speakers' speeches focused, from Ludovica Murazzani, Commercial Vice Consul of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, to Valtero Canepa, Vice Chairman of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, to Emanuela Vizzarro responsible for Chambers of Commerce of Shanghai and Suzhou in Wu Hongwei, Director of Suzhou Foreign Affairs Office in Huang Jin, Vice Mayor of Xiangcheng District.
Suzhou is a concrete example for the mase in Italy of the "doing system" as was also confirmed by Riccardo Campanile, member of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce.
In a critical moment such as what the market is going through, strengthening a cohesive presence of Italian companies and the link between China and Italy is an anti-cyclical move especially on the eve of a year, 2020, dedicated to stimulating cultural initiatives between the two countries and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Vice Consul Murazzani recalled, among other things, that reaffirming this mutuality contributes to the 40th anniversary of the twinning between Venice and Suzhou, considered the "Eastern Venice" for its many canals.
Suzhou begins to have its importance during the Song Dynasty from the year 1000 to the XIII century with its famous 170 gardens and its canalization with a river port in connection with the Yanztze River and the famous Grand Canal, a monumental work linking Hangzhou and Beijing, still existing and frequently used today. It was also the center of a school for the preparation of Imperial officials in the management of public administration and the headquarters of the Kunqu Opera which differs from both the best known of Beijing and Shanghai.
In particular, the Xiangchen area finds its popularity during the reign of Wu, in the fourth century AD, when water and soil with particular qualities had been discovered through geomancy.
A few days ago, Romano Prodi, to emphasize the concept of the importance of cultural exchanges, was in his keynote speech during the China Awards ceremony. "Economic relations between China, Europe and Italy need to be further intensified. Science and technology-related relationships that progress always and only when there are open cooperations," said the former President of the European Commission.
Suzhou therefore demonstrates a line of continuity between past and future joint and in parallel with the history of Italy.
