MILAN, Dec. 19 (Class Editori) – China turns out to be the reference market for the wine from Abruzzo. Indeed, the People's Republic of China is the destionation that in the first half of the year had the best performance (+26.8%). And by looking at the results of the 2013-2018 five-year period, the jump is 154%, in fact placing third behind only the United Kingdom, where exports have more than quadrupled. The data emerge from an elaboration of the Permanent Observatory edited by Wine Monitor Nomisma, activated in 2019 by the Consortium for the Protection of Abruzzo wines to better understand the trend of Abruzzo wines, starting from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, on the main markets and consequently implementing an even better performance promotion and communication strategy - we can deduce the excellent sales performance in Italy and the growth in exports.
"We wanted to activate this Observatory to analyze the performance of our wines on the most strategic markets - Italy, Germany and the USA - by highlighting the levers on which we will have to insist to raise more and more the threshold of notoriety and enhancement of our region and its wines", explained the President of the Consortium, Valentino Di Campli.
The survey shows that large-scale distribution is the preferred channel for Italy and Germany in the United States 1 out of 2 consumers buy it in wine shops and specialized shops. "It is certainly very important for our reality to note in general the good health of the consumption of Abruzzo wines, and in particular of the denomination par excellence, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The Consortium is strengthening the combination of wine and territory with a punctual promotional effort, as the consumer chooses more and more according to the area of origin and for Abruzzo there is still much to do in this direction", adds Di Campli .
The search for new markets includes the recent promotional tour in China and Vietnam, accompanying 21 wineries in Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shanghai and Hanoi. Imports of wine from Abruzzo in the Asian continent, according to the Consortium data, reached over 17 million euros in 2018 with a growth of about 7% compared to the previous year, representing an important outlet market for Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
