HAIKOU, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Deals worth more than 77.4 billion yuan (around 11.06 billion U.S. dollars) were signed during an agricultural fair for tropical products that concluded Monday in south China's Hainan Province.
This year's total order amount for agricultural products set a new record at the annual China (Hainan) International Winter Trade Fair of Tropical Agricultural Products.
The event attracted more than 2,700 enterprises and over 570,000 visitors, both record highs.
The Belt and Road exhibition zone was one of the highlights of the five-day fair. It displayed around 1,000 products from more than 30 countries participating in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, which is aimed at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and beyond along the ancient Silk Road trade routes for common development and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the fair also joined China's anti-poverty battle by setting up booths for exhibitors from poor regions. Deals worth more than 2.2 billion yuan were signed at the booths.
Hainan, China's southernmost province, is known for its wide variety of tropical products. Hainan was granted approval to build a pilot free trade zone and explore the establishment of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics in 2018.
